What is Ayurveda?

The ancient text (Veda) where different types ofAyu(age/life) is described, the good or bad food for that Ayu is explained and how that Ayu can be healthy and long is called Ayurved.

It is a traditional system of medicine and one of the oldest surviving comprehensive herbal medicine systems on the planet. Understanding and following Ayurveda can help anyone achieve balanced health.

What are the Doshas?

The five elements (Earth, Water, Fire, Space/Ether, Air) are condensed into three primal metabolic forces in the human body known as doshas. This term in layman’s language is translated as ‘fault’ so they represent a way that a particular type of energy tends to go out of balance. The doshas are:

Vata (air + space): It maintains the movement in the body. It is dry, cold, light and irregular, and predominates in the large intestine.

Pitta (fire + water): It maintains body heat and metabolism including digestive enzymes, bile and digestive secretions. It is wet/oily, hot and intense, and predominates in the small intestine.

Kapha (water + earth): It maintains lubrication, structure and solidity in the body. It is wet/oily, cold, heavy, slow and stable, and predominates in the thorax.

What is Prakriti and Vikruti?

Prakriti: The constitution, defined by the person’s primary dosha.

Vikruti: The imbalance of doshas at a given time in a person’s body.

How does Ayurveda work?

Ayurveda works on the body’s constitution with an objective to get back to balance with the use of food, herbs and nutrients. At a given time you might be following dietary recommendations, lifestyle practices, taking supplements or herbal preparations to address a specific current issue of imbalance or Vikruti.

Does ayurvedic medicine have any side effects?

Generally, there are no side effects of the ayurvedic medicine as these are given according to the life stage, age, body weight and body constitution of the person. However, it is always advised to check with a qualified practitioner.

Does Ayurvedic herbal medicine safe to use?

Generally, all the ayurvedic herbal preparations are safe to use and are recommended according to the person’s age, body weight and constituent doshas by a qualified practitioner.

Can ayurvedic medicine be taken with conventional medicine?

Concurrent intake of different medicines is usually advised to the clients after the consultations.

Why try Ayurveda?

Ayurveda is a holistic system of traditional medicine that intends to restore proper harmony to the constituent doshas. It is gentle and personalised according to the individual needs hence it is safe to use and suits every life stage.

Can I get a virtual/online consultation?

If face-to-face or in-person consultations are not possible due to any circumstances, then an online or virtual consultation can be arranged. It is also offered to clients from other countries.

What should I expect during an Ayurvedic or naturopathic consultation?

Ayurvedic initial consultation takes about 45-60 minutes and includes thorough questioning, physical examinations and analysis of the body constitution and the diet.

Can Ayurvedic herbal medicine be given to the kids?

Yes, because ayurvedic herbal preparations are given according to the kid’s age and weight so they are safe to be given to the kids.
